Hillsborough County Tax Collector
The Property Tax Cycle can be roughly described as follows. First, the Property Appraiser values the properties and applies valid exemptions, which lays a property tax base. Second, the various taxing authorities in the county set the millage rate. Third, the Property Appraiser sends the Truth-in-Millage (TRIM) Notices to owners in August. The notice contains the assessed value, the millage rate, and the estimated tax amount. Fourth, the Value Adjustment Board deals with the petitions for assessment, classification, or exemptions. Fifth, the Tax Collector mails out all tax bills by November 1 and begins to collect taxes. Sixth, the Tax Collector distributes property taxes to the local governments and taxing authorities.
Property taxes become due on November 1 and must be paid in full by March 31 of the following year. Taxes are delinquent on April 1, which will add a 3% interest and advertising fee. If you have difficulty in making a one-off payment, there are three payment plans for you to choose from - installment payment plan, partial payment plan, and homestead real estate tax deferral.
