Florida Property Appraiser

Citrus County Property Appraiser

The goal of the Citrus County Property Appraiser is to offer yearly market-based fair and equitable tax assessments that adhere to the Florida Constitution, law, and criteria. The office also informs the public about all legal exemptions available to them, and continuously develops and maintains partnerships for property appraisal across the county, the state, and the nation. This article will give a brief introduction to the work of the Citrus County Property Appraiser and provide information about property value appraisal and property tax.

The property appraisers gather information on the real estate in Citrus County all year long. By July 1, the property appraiser is required to finish assessing all properties, submit the roll for approval to the Department of Revenue, and certify the total taxable value to all taxing authorities. At the same time, the taxing authorities start the process of setting their millage rates after determining the market values. Each property owner receives a Notice of Proposed Property Tax (Truth in Millage) which indicates the amount of anticipated tax. All property owners have the right to question the market value or millage rates of their properties. They can make inquiries with the relevant departments within the time period required. Finally, the tax bills are mailed by the Tax Collector on or about November 1.
