Marion County Property Appraiser
According to the Constitution, it is the Property Appraiser's responsibility to assign a fair and accurate assessment to every real estate and tangible personal property for tax purposes in Marion County. In addition, the Property Appraiser is also responsible for dealing with the applications for tax exemptions, keeping track of changes in the property information, and maintaining up-to-date descriptions of all properties in the county.
The Marion County Property Appraiser’s Office sticks to the values of public service-first, accountability, commitment, and professionalism, which ensures the property owners in the county enjoy timely and courteous services. Jimmy H. Cowan, Jr., CFA has been elected to the position of Marion County Property Appraiser since 2021.
The Property Appraiser normally uses a computer-assisted mass appraisal system to determine the value of all properties in the county. Three methods are applied - the sales method, the income method, and the cost method. The sales method is based on the sales prices of similar properties. The income method is usually used for commercial properties such as stores, apartments, and offices, which requires for an analysis of the income the properties may produce. The cost method is to calculate the cost of erecting nearly the same structure on the lot today. The value of all properties should be assessed as of January 1 each year.

You can use the page to search the property information by ten methods - Address, Name, Parcel - Real Estate, Parcel - Tangible, Property Class, Adverse Possession, Map ID, OR Book and Page, Section/Township/Range, Subdivision Name, Subdivision ID, Map Index, and Delimited Data.
Select the method you prefer, enter the relevant item in the search field, and then click the Search button.
You will get details about the property record card, property information, current value, history of assessed values, property transfer history, property description, cost/market summary, etc.
How to Use Online Appointment System?
The Marion County Property Appraiser provides an Online Appointment System on the website.
The first step is to select the appropriate department. There are seven department options - Customer Service and Exemptions, Agriculture Classification, Tangible Personal Property, Residential, Commercial, Vacant Land, and GIS. Select the department that best addresses your issue and then click the "Next" button. The second step is to select the data and time. You can make an appointment in the next five days. The available time is 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. The last step is to fill out the forms of contact information. Please note that you need to offer as much information as possible about your issues in order to get better services.
