Lee County Tax Collector
The cycle of property tax can be simply described as follows.
On January 1 each year, the Property Appraiser determines the appraised value of all properties within the country. On March 1, the applications for tax exemptions to the Property Appraiser are due. From March to July, the Property Appraiser calculates the total taxable value, and the local taxing authorities set the proposed millage rates accordingly. In August, the Property Appraiser mails out TRIM notices to all property owners, which provides information about the appraised value, certified exemptions, and the amount of tax. From September to early October, local taxing authorities hold public meetings to ask for opinions before voting on a final millage rate.
In late October or early November, the Property Appraiser affirms the tax rolls and sends them to the Tax Collector, who then prints and mails out the tax bills to the property owners, and collects the taxes. Please notice that the Taxes should be paid by March 31. Having received all taxes, the Tax Collector distributes the taxes to the local taxing authorities to pay for public services.
