Sumter County Tax Collector
Ad valorem taxes are calculated based on the property values and are collected by the Tax Collector annually starting from November 1 for the tax year January through December. The Property value is determined by the Property Appraiser and the millage rates are set by the taxing authorities. The Property Appraiser prepares the tax roll based on the property values and exemptions and then certifies it to the Tax Collector. The Tax Collector incorporates the non ad valorem assessments into the certified tax roll and mails the tax bills to the property owners.
Property taxes are due from November 1 each year with certain discounts for early payment (4% discount if paid in November, 3% discount if paid in December, 2% discount if paid in January, 1% discount if paid in February, and gross amount due in March). Taxes become delinquent on April 1 and a 3% penalty will be imposed.
How to Use the Property Tax Search and Pay?
You can search or pay your property taxes on the website.
You need to enter the name, address, or account number in the search box, and then press the "Search" button. A new page will be displayed. Click the latest bill, and you will know the charges, the most recent payment (if any), and other information about the property. If there is an amount due and online payments are allowed, click the "Pay" button to add the tax bill to the shopping cart and make an online payment.
